Biography

Dee Williams is a builder, teacher, author and occasional rabble-rouser.  She’s co-owner of Portland Alternative Dwellings, LLC (www.padtinyhouses.com), a company founded on the principle that everyone can build the life they dream.  Dee’s memoir, The Big Tiny (2014 Penguin/Random House) , chronicles her journey toward voluntary simplicity, life in a micro house, and her realization that there’s nothing better than saying “Thank You” and “I Love You.” Dee has been featured in Yes! Magazine, the NBC Evening News, the New York Times, LA Times, NPR, MSNBC, the BBC, TIME Magazine, Forbes and media worldwide.  Dee has been referred to as a pioneer in the tiny house movement on numerous blogs, in TINY the documentary, and on PBS.  She’s also been called the “Princess of Tiny” and the “Tina Fey of Sustainability.” Dee lives in Olympia, Washington in the 84-sq.ft house she built 10 years ago, which for her is the epicenter of something more massive than the ever-expanding universe…the place she calls ‘home.’
