David Foster is the Executive Director of the Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay in California, which is involved in building affordable homes using volunteer labor. Their work has included the building of four ADUs with ownership arranged through a tenants-in-common structure.
The affiliate initiated a new program in 2016 called My House My Home which build ADUs for low-income senior homeowners to help them downsize, stabilize their income, and create affordable rental opportunities.
David’s private experience with ADUs includes having built the first legal strawbale ADU in the City of Santa Cruz in 2006 to provide an independent living arrangement for his aging parents.
David has a BS degree in Community Studies from UC Santa Cruz and a MS degree in Community Development from UC Davis.
